Dr. Grant Stevens Honored with Just Like My Child Foundation’s Humanitarian Award

MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--()--Grant Stevens, M.D., FACS, a board certified plastic surgeon and founder of Marina Plastic Surgery in Marina del Rey, CA, will receive the Just Like My Child Foundation’s 2014 Humanitarian Award at the nonprofit's Eighth Annual Gala, “The Million Girl Movement – Empowering girls to change the world,” on October 26 at the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills. This year's event is co-chaired by Steve Romande, Broadway performer and producer, and Nancy Moonves, a powerful ally from the Hollywood entertainment industry.

“I am thrilled to be supporting such a groundbreaking cause as the Just Like My Child Foundation’s Girl Power Project ®. This program teaches girls how to avoid early pregnancy, marriage and disease, stay in school and become financially independent so they can create healthy, self-sustaining families that prosper without further aid,” said Dr. Stevens. “The Foundation's work has already empowered more than 200,000 individuals in 76 communities in Uganda, East Africa, and 1,500 individuals in two communities in Senegal, West Africa.”

According to Just Like My Child (JLMC) Founder Vivian Glyck, "Our goal is to reach an additional one million girls through The Girl Power Project in the next five years. No one is more vulnerable than an uneducated girl living in poverty. She is at risk for dropping out of school, falling victim to sexual violence, contracting HIV/AIDS, marrying early, becoming pregnant as a young teen and dying during childbirth." Glyck added that if the child survives these dangers, she will be raising her children within the same cycle of poverty and risks. “The health and wellbeing of the next generation is dependent upon the health and wellbeing of their mothers," Glyck said.

"Dr. Stevens has been a tireless and consistent supporter of JLMC since its inception in 2006. His commitment has helped us save the lives of more than 5,000 mothers and rebuild a small clinic in rural Uganda into a nationally recognized teaching hospital," said Glyck. "For this reason, we are delighted to present this year's Humanitarian Award to a great human being and dedicated physician."

The event will be attended by an elite group of Hollywood film, television and music producers, with a reception at the home of Nancy Moonves the night before. To purchase tickets, visit Just Like My Child Foundation.
