NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The COPD Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to curing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is hosting “A Tribute to Phil Everly” benefit concert on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., at the home of Sylvia Roberts, 1358 Page Rd., Nashville, Tennessee. The event will feature a performance by 12-time Grammy winner Paul Simon in honor of Phil Everly who passed away in 2014 due to complications from COPD. Phil and his brother Don Everly formed the Everly Brothers, and influenced the work of the Beatles, the Hollies and Simon and Garfunkel, as well as countless solo artists, including Paul Simon, who remarked, “I wish I’d have met him earlier. He was such a good friend.”
In attendance at the event will be Phil Everly’s wife Patti Everly. “In addition to being a gifted singer, musician and songwriter, Phil was also an amazing husband, dedicated father, grandfather and uncle. COPD took Phil too early. Phil’s music changed our world, and now it’s time to get behind the COPD Foundation and change the world again where no one has to live with COPD,” said Ms. Everly. “I am grateful for the support of Paul Simon in helping to raise awareness about this devastating disease and to be a part of this special evening with proceeds going towards the COPD Foundation.”
COPD is the third leading cause of death in the United States, affecting more than 24 million Americans, but there is very little research funding for this preventable disease.
