BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tendril®, the leading provider of Energy Services Management (ESM) solutions, has entered into an exclusive partnership with PrintReleaf, the first technology platform to enable cloud-based paper usage tracking and reforestation. Under terms of the agreement, Tendril will provide its customers with an innovative way to reduce the environmental impact of delivering paper-based Home Energy Reports (HERs) by contributing to reforestation efforts.
Tendril currently executes the world’s largest HER program on behalf of one of the largest utilities in the country. The two companies work together to deliver reports to more than 1.2 million consumers that provide insight into energy usage and provide tips for reducing consumption. This effort has resulted in the delivery of 19 million reports and similar efforts are underway with NV Energy and Seattle City Light. Despite the success of these programs in reducing energy usage, they do impact the environment by relying on the printing and mailing of paper-based reports.
“As an organization committed to delivering personalized energy efficiency solutions and providing great value to our utility partners, we’re pleased to offset whatever small impact we may have on deforestation,” said Chris Black, chief technology officer, Tendril. “With PrintReleaf’s industry-leading technology, we can now neutralize paper usage, improve efficiency and certifiably participate in sustaining forests around the world.”
PrintReleaf’s patent-pending software platform allows Tendril to connect its customers with reforestation projects across the globe. As part of the program, a tree is planted for every 8,333 sheets of standard letter paper used. In addition to coordinating reforestation efforts for all HERs delivered in the future, PrintReleaf will plant 4,500 trees to cover the nearly 20 million reports sent to date. Furthermore, Tendril’s customers can access and manage their consumption and reforestation projects through a unique online portal, which allows them to determine the location of their reforestation efforts, track progress, create sustainability reports and link to social media channels for increased transparency and accountability.
“It takes multiple approaches to truly establish a sustainable business process,” said PrintReleaf founder and CEO, Jordan Darragh. “With Tendril’s focus on reducing the world’s energy consumption and by actively neutralizing their paper usage, they are raising the bar in environmentally sustainable business practices that will have a lasting impact on our planet.”
PrintReleaf, which officially introduced the PRX platform in early 2014, works with world-class reforestation organizations including Eden Projects, Plant With Purpose, and WeForest. The projects are audited over an eight-year period by SGS International to ensure that all trees planted survive.
