SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Osterhout Design Group (ODG), a leading developer of emerging and disruptive electro-optics and sensor-based technologies for government, industrial and consumer markets, today announced the next-generation in head-worn computing—the R-7 Glasses system. The R-7 will be the first fully integrated, 3D see-through, augmented reality (AR) eyewear incorporating the revolutionary Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 805 processor from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, and supporting the Qualcomm Vuforia™ Mobile Vision Platform, a product of Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc., which delivers immersive experiences right to users’ eyes.
The R-7 uses ODG’s proprietary electro-optic, computing, sensor and power system, whose technology independently drives dual, 720 pixel see-through elements, delivering an immersive 3D stereoscopic display. This allows the seamless and real-time overlay of 3D, photo-realistic graphics, video and annotations on the user’s environment. This capability will enable a wide range of applications for industrial use. Like ODG’s R-6 glasses, the R-7 will offer unmatched performance, versatility and optimization in a pair of fully integrated glasses that are robust enough for a wide-range of environments while being light and comfortable for everyday use. The R-6 and R-7 Glasses are the first fully integrated, head-worn computing systems.
“ODG is focused on revolutionizing wearable technologies and developing innovative and sophisticated situational awareness, security and first-responder solutions,” said Ralph Osterhout, Chief Executive Officer of Osterhout Design Group. “ODG’s smart glasses are designed to deliver an unparalleled ability in head-worn computing, with innumerable applications for government and industry. We are excited to offer products that will help current and future customers increase their productivity, financial capability, accuracy and security in their day-to-day usage, with the ultimate goal of revolutionizing the consumer market.”
The R-7 will leverage the Snapdragon 805 mobile processor with high performance Qualcomm® Krait CPU, gorgeous graphics with leading Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU and power optimized Qualcomm® Hexagon™ DSP for advanced camera processing.
Today’s announcement coincides with the Qualcomm Uplinq 2014 mobile developers’ conference, being held September 18 and 19 in San Francisco, where ODG will be demonstrating its R-6 and R-7 models.
ODG’s R-6 Glasses are currently in beta release and will be shipping to government customers at the end of 2014. The R-7’s will initially target industrial and government customers and will be shipping to developers and partners by the second quarter of 2015.
