LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jeffrey Kightlinger, general manager of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, issues the following statement on today’s passage by the California Legislature of a $7.54 billion water bond for the November 2014 ballot:
“The revised water bond recognizes the fiscal limitations of California at a time when significant water investments are acutely needed. Metropolitan applauds the efforts of the Legislature and Gov. Brown to advance water investments for local supplies and statewide system reliability that would provide both environmental and supply benefits for years to come. A successful bond would advance a comprehensive California water policy agenda that would help meet the state’s water needs and better prepare us for future droughts that are certain to come.”
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.
