SAN FRANCISCO--()--Recurly Inc., provider of the world’s most widely used subscription billing management platform, today announced the appointment of software industry veteran, Renato Mascardo as chief technology officer. Mascardo will focus on Recurly’s technical vision and operational excellence as the company scales to meet the demands of its growing customer base.

Mascardo brings extensive experience as a software entrepreneur and executive to Recurly. Most recently, he served as the vice president of engineering at Rosetta Stone, where he led the development of new cloud and mobile infrastructures supporting SaaS growth strategies and multi-device delivery. Previously, he was the CTO of Atari, and held senior engineering management positions at Metamoki, Mercury Interactive and Hewlett Packard. Mascardo’s leadership expertise coupled with his passion for innovation and experience building high-caliber engineering teams will enable Recurly to accelerate its leadership in delivering easily outsourced recurring billing management to thousands of customers worldwide.

“We are delighted to have Renato join our leadership team,” said Dan Burkhart, chief executive officer for Recurly. “He brings a passion software innovation and a pride in world-class execution which is exciting for a company at our stage of growth.”

While at Atari and Rosetta Stone, Mascardo observed how mobile, SaaS and cloud technologies were driving the need for new approaches to managing subscription-based revenue models made possible by these technologies.

“Online subscription-based businesses — from gaming companies and software providers to digital media services and box-of-the-month vendors — are booming around the globe,” Mascardo said. “It is an exciting opportunity to help Recurly prepare for the next stage of its evolution by building the technology systems and teams that will better equip a new generation of subscription-based businesses to thrive.”
