Canalway Partners Hosts 25th Annual “RiverSweep” Cleanup

About 1,000 volunteers expected to participate at nine clean-up sites

WHO: Canalway Partners (formerly Ohio Canal Corridor) & about 1,000 volunteers

  • Including area high school students, community groups, non-profit organizations, government agencies, CDCs and corporate partners.
  • Canalway Partners is a Founding Organization of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area.

WHAT: 25th Annual RiverSweep

  • Ohio's most successful done-in-a-day environmental cleanup operation.

WHEN: Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m.– Noon

  • There will be a celebratory luncheon following the cleanup.
  • Celebratory Lunch: Noon – 2 p.m. - at The Cleveland Rowing Foundation, 1003 British Road, 44113.

WHY: Landmark 25th Anniversary event continues to clear spaces where future National Heritage Area parks and trails will be developed. In 25 years, more than 16,400 volunteers have helped recycle 22,380 illegally discarded tires and 419 tons of rubbish.

WHERE: Nine Clean-up Locations in Cleveland’s Cuyahoga River Valley - Good photo ops expected at Train, Flats East & West, and Canal Basin - the future home of Canal Basin Park. Student volunteers will be in greater numbers at the Train Ave., Tremont, West Creek and Big Creek sites.

  1. The Flats East - Meet at the corner of Merwin and Columbus - Sainato's Restaurant: 1852 Columbus Rd. Cleveland, 44113.
  2. The Flats West - Meet on outside patio of the Cleveland Aquarium: 2000 Sycamore St. 44113.
  3. Canal Basin - Meet at the intersection of Merwin and West. North of Flat Iron/Red Swing Bridge, south of Settlers Landing.
  4. Morgana Run/Slavik Village - Meet at 6711 Broadway in the parking lot of Aldi and MetroHealth.
  5. Train Avenue - Meet at Aries Industries, 3301 Train Ave. 44113.
  6. Tremont - Meet at Clark Field (approx. address: 2690 West 7th St.)
  7. West Creek - Pleasant Valley & Broadview Rd., Parma. Park at Giant Eagle, 7400 Broadview Rd.
  8. Millcreek/Slavik Village - Meet at Brilla House (8411 Webb Terrace) located at intersection of Turney, Broadway and Warner.
  9. Big Creek/Lower Harvard - Meet at Iron City Cafe, 4002 Jennings Rd.
