Monster and Military.com Host Veteran and Employer Dialogue at National Veteran Employment Summit

More than 150 Employers, Members of Congress Help Spotlight Issues and Benefits in Retaining Veteran Employees

WESTON, Mass. & WASHINGTON--()--Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW), the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities, and Military.com, the nation's largest military and veteran membership organization, hosted their national Veterans Employment Summit on Wednesday, April 30th.

The event brought together human resources professionals, hiring managers and veteran service organizations looking to enhance or begin a veteran or military spouse hiring program. The conference differed from other veteran employment programs in that it went beyond reinforcing the notion that veteran hiring is important and put the right people in the room together to focus more on proven recruitment and retention strategies.

Highlights of the program included keynote speaker Sal Giunta, the first living Medal of Honor recipient since Vietnam and a session titled “The Elephant in the Room” which was a frank and open discussion about the perceptions and issues pertaining to veterans that can impede their hiring process.

“Monster and Military.com are proud of our track record connecting Veterans to employers in the private and public sectors, and were pleased to sponsor a forum a that facilitates meaningful dialogue on the challenges our Vets face in the job market,” said Steve Cooker, Executive Vice President for Monster Worldwide and General Manager of Monster Government Solutions, “The engagement with so many respected human capital and government leaders who put words into action every day around improving veteran employment was inspiring.”

The program also included a “View from Capitol Hill” including remarks from Senator Joe Manchin.

“Those who have served this great country are some of the most well-trained, disciplined, and dedicated individuals among us, and they deserve simple, consolidated, and reliable ways to find good-paying jobs. I am also grateful for all the companies and HR professionals who attended this wonderful event to learn more about the best ways to connect employers to job-seeking veterans. Like I've always said, if you want to help a vet, hire a vet. And that was what this event was all about,” said Senator Manchin.

Representative Jeff Denham said, “As our men and women return home, they will be greeted with the opportunity of a new career. Our Veterans Jobs Caucus remains focused on this goal, and I have been honored to work with Senator Manchin and our partner companies who are committed to finding solutions to veterans’ unemployment.”

And Representative Tim Walz, Co-Chair of the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus and highest ranking enlisted soldier to ever serve in Congress said, “It should be our goal as a grateful nation to ensure our brave warriors have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream when they get home; to provide for their families, contribute to their communities, and find careers they can be proud of.”

Participants represented over 150 employers, across a spectrum of industries and sizes with varying degrees of veteran recruitment programs in place. In addition to perspectives shared from government officials on the importance of veteran hiring, attendees heard from recently transitioned veterans, and military spouses.

Monster and Military.com are actively engaged in helping employers hire the men and women who serve and to helping the nation's veterans find civilian positions that fit their experience and skills.
