FLINT, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Executives of McLaren Health Care and Port Huron Hospital have finalized an agreement effective May 1, 2014, for Port Huron Hospital to become the 12th hospital in the not-for-profit McLaren Health Care system. The hospital will be renamed McLaren Port Huron.
The agreement paves the way for immediate expanded health services in the Port Huron area, including a new cancer center, facility improvements, and upgraded technology and equipment.

Capital funding for the construction of a new cancer center and a new inpatient tower is part of the agreement. The hospital expects to break ground for the cancer center early in 2015 with construction of the inpatient tower beginning later in 2015.

The hospital will remain locally governed. David Thompson, chairman of the board of directors for Blue Water Health Services, Port Huron Hospital’s parent organization, will join the McLaren Health Care board of trustees.
