WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) announced today that Michael S. Barr, MD, MBA, FACP, will be Executive Vice President leading NCQA’s efforts to promote delivery system reform and performance measurement, research, analysis and consulting work, beginning May 27.

O’Kane. “His leadership in advancing the patient-centered medical home is a tremendous contribution, and he makes a terrific addition to our team.”
Dr. Barr comes to NCQA from the American College of Physicians (ACP), where he was Senior Vice President of the Division of Medical Practice. While at ACP, he was active on the NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Advisory Committee, a multi-stakeholder group that helps guide a key NCQA program, PCMH recognition.
Prior to his work at ACP, Dr. Barr was Chief Medical Officer of Baltimore Medical System, Inc. He also held leadership positions at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, serving as Physician Director of Medical Management Programs and Physician Manager of the Division of General Internal Medicine. He served as a Staff Internist and was Chief of Internal Medicine at a U.S. Air Force hospital in Valdosta, Georgia.
Dr. Barr holds part-time faculty appointments at Johns Hopkins University and The George Washington University. In July 2013, he was appointed by Governor Martin O'Malley to the Maryland Health Care Commission.
Dr. Barr earned a BS degree in Forest Biology from the State University of New York - Syracuse, a medical degree from New York University and an MBA from Vanderbilt University.
