PatientSafe Solutions Appoints Veteran Nurse Executive Dr. Cheryl D. Parker as Chief Nursing Informatics Officer

SAN DIEGO--()--PatientSafe Solutions, a leader in smart point-of-care mobile solutions for healthcare, today announced that Cheryl D. Parker, PhD, RN-BC, FHIMSS has joined the company as its chief nursing informatics officer. In this new role, Dr. Parker will utilize her decades of clinical informatics and nursing education experience to work with PatientSafe’s strategic customers and partners to improve the care delivery process and experience through the use of smart phone-enabled applications at the point-of-care.

Dr. Parker has over 35 years of experience in nursing as a clinical leader, informatics nurse specialist, faculty member, and practicing nurse. She joins PatientSafe from Rubbermaid Healthcare, where, as CNIO, she championed products that support optimal nursing workflow and shared clinical insights to aid in product development. Prior to Rubbermaid, Dr. Parker served as senior clinical informatics specialist for Motion Computing, a rugged tablet PC manufacturer. She currently serves as adjunct faculty at Walden University in the MSN and DNP programs. She has written extensively on mobile health information technology and its impact on both workflow and the patient-clinician relationship for publications including Computers Informatics Nursing, the Journal of Healthcare Information Management, Advance for Executive Insight, and Connection. Dr. Parker has also authored several book chapters on nursing informatics, and she is a frequent presenter at professional conferences.

As hospitals and health systems increasingly adopt EHR infrastructure, there is a growing need to help nursing teams balance between delivering quality patient care and documenting that care on stationary systems that were never optimized for point-of-care nursing use. This has propelled the evolution of the increasingly important role of the nursing informaticist leader in health systems across the country. PatientSafe recognizes that the CNIO will play a crucial role in the healthcare environment over the next decade as the true enabler of information technology that connects strategy, IT, and frontline care delivery.

“Cheryl Parker’s experience as a clinician, informaticist, and educator gives her unique insight into the role that smart point-of-care mobile technology can play in supporting the clinical workforce as well as the strategic goals of the healthcare organizations they serve,” said Joe Condurso, president and chief executive officer of PatientSafe Solutions. “We welcome Cheryl and look forward to her contributions as we build beautiful mobile clinical applications that enable superior care delivery experiences for frontline caregivers and patients. Cheryl’s past experiences position her well to work with nursing informatics leaders as they seek to utilize real-time analytics of high-fidelity data from smart point-of-care mobile technologies and prepare for the incoming era of value-based care.”

Dr. Parker joins at an important time for PatientSafe, on the heels of the company’s expansion into the Canadian and the Asia Pacific healthcare markets, and amidst new features and capabilities for its clinical communications to deliver Connected Patient Care™ product suites.

“The adoption of smartphone-based technologies and applications will reshape healthcare over the next decade. PatientSafe is at the forefront of this movement. Its products support the need for clinicians to access detailed patient and therapy resource information, document as a byproduct of care, communicate with each other using multiple modalities, and develop and implement collaborative care plans – all from a single device that fits in the pocket,” said Dr. Parker. “I’m excited to join the PatientSafe team and use my experience and passion for nursing informatics to fulfill the company’s mission to align the needs of clinicians, patients, and the healthcare system at large.”
