Speakers at Fourth Annual Event Included The Carlyle Group Co-CEO David Rubenstein, Carolinas Healthcare System President and COO Joe Piemont, and Top Pharma, IT Executives

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--()--Bourne Partners, a healthcare advisory and merchant banking firm comprised of Bourne Capital Partners, LLC (BCP) and Bourne Partners Alternative Assets, LLC (BPAA), held its annual conference recently, with industry leaders participating in a variety of panel discussions regarding healthcare, consumer and private equity issues.

The two-day event featured several prominent speakers, including Joe Piemont, President and COO of Carolinas HealthCare System; David Simmons, CEO of Pharmaceutical Product Development, LLC (PPD); and David Rubenstein, noted philanthropist and co-founder of The Carlyle Group.

In addition to Rubenstein and other speakers from The Carlyle Group, top executives from Capital Royalty L.P., Irving Place Capital and Deutsche Bank AG participated in the conference and served on discussion panels. In total, speakers’ companies represented more than $70 billion in aggregate revenue, $50 billion in market capitalization and $200 billion in assets under management.

Conference attendees included global healthcare and consumer executives from a variety of disciplines, including the pharmaceutical, hospital and healthcare technology sectors; private equity investors; and investors, partners and clients of Bourne Partners.

“Since our inception, it has been our goal to go beyond the traditional concept of financial partnership,” said Banks Bourne, who founded Bourne Partners in 2001 and currently serves as its senior managing director. “Our focus on relationships and long-term results, coupled with our investments in sector-leading companies and our partnerships with top-tier private equity funds, allows us to most effectively guide the financial strategies of our clients.

“Our annual conference is just one example of how we strive to serve as an essential and informative resource for our partners and clients,” said Bourne. “At Bourne Partners, we believe strongly in leveraging our network of industry experts and corporate connections in order to play an active role in helping businesses grow.”

For the first time in the event’s four-year history, presentation topics ranged beyond healthcare, pharmaceuticals and financing to include marketing and information technology. In one session, tech visionary and ServiceNow founder Fred Luddy discussed cloud technologies and opportunities for improved efficacy in healthcare IT. In another, YP (formerly Yellow Pages) CEO David Krantz, Fleet Laboratories’ Chief Business Development Officer Steve Ruhf and Designer Protein LLC Chairman Cyrill Siewert offered their perspectives on brand building, corporate messaging and social media.

Rick Hendrick, chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group and 11-time NASCAR Sprint Cup championship-winning team owner, delivered an address on leadership and answered questions about both his business and NASCAR successes. Hendrick, who hosted a portion of the event at his Hendrick Motorsports facility, also provided attendees with a private tour of his state-of-the-art race shop to close the conference.

“The event was fantastic,” said presenter Jason Wild, president of JW Asset Management and chairman of Arbor Pharmaceuticals. “We covered a wide array of topics, not only from healthcare, but also from the financial, consumer and technology fields. The caliber of both the speakers and attendees made it a very worthwhile event in which to participate. I’m looking forward to next year.”
