IMST on embedded world 2014

embedded world 2014

KAMP-LINTFORT, Germany--()--At embedded world 2014 in Nuremberg on February 25th to 27th IMST, German expert for wireless solutions, presents the following innovations.

The iM880A – newest member of the radio module family WiMOD – is a compact, low power, bidirectional radio module for the 868 MHz frequency band using Semtech’s LoRaTM modulation technology.

LoRaTM provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity while minimizing current consumption. The iM880A achieves a link budget of up to 156 dB and therefore enables ranges of more than 15 km in a rural or 2-5 km in a dense urban environment operating compliant to European regulatory limits. “LoRaTM solves the traditional design compromise between range, interference immunity and energy consumption”, explains Hardy Schmidbauer, Director Wireless Products at Semtech Corporation.

The product family for Smart Metering Applications – based on the iM871A – has become even greater. The Wireless M-Bus Analyzer PA-iM871A is a tool that allows to monitor the Wireless M-Bus communication according to EN 13757-4. Heinz Syrzisko, Head of Business Unit Wireless Solutions at IMST places a lot of emphasis on "the easy-to-use graphical user interface in conjunction with the Wireless M-Bus USB flash drive." "The PA-iM871A provides rapid troubleshooting and maintenance in Wireless M-Bus networks”, appends Syrzisko.

For the first time the new 24 GHz radar product line will be presented at a major trade fair in Germany. The lightweight and compact systems have a multi-channel receiver, which allows the detection of the target angle in addition to the conventional measurement capabilities "distance" and "speed". "The exceptionally high sensitivity of our technology enables the user to detect targets at distances of up to several hundred meters and still realize a wide surveillance area with a single module", explains Tobias Klein, Product Manager radar at IMST. As a special feature the radar systems of IMST offer full access to the measurement data, which offers the opportunity to realize own IP in security and industrial measurement applications. For moving objects an anti-collision protection or distance control to target objects can be realized with the radar system.

"We have implemented this idea with our SENTIRE platform, an intelligent multirotor flight system. An integrated flight assistance unit on the UAV merges data from multiple radar systems, as well as sensors and controls the flight parameters", explains Siegfried Schulze, responsible for the business segment UAV IMST. "This will create a new application area for wireless sensor systems and in particular for the LoRaTM technology. The data of several "flying sensors" can be transmitted with the iM880A over a long range to a central station at the ground."
