HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Xceedium®, Inc., the premier provider of privileged identity management for hybrid-cloud environments, today announced it has been issued a patent covering essential privileged identity management technologies. US Patent 8,595,794 covers direct and brokered privileged user access to remote resources by authenticated users based on defined policies. Among other criteria, policy constraints can be enforced based on the physical location of the user, and time periods when access is permitted. Access can immediately be revoked, and sessions terminated, in the event of a policy change, a change in a user’s location, or expiration of an authorized time window.
Xceedium's proprietary technology is instrumental in enabling organizations to manage and control the risks posed by privileged users and administrative credentials. A series of high profile security breaches across government, retailing, financial services, and other sectors have recently demonstrated the pervasiveness of these incidents, and their significant impact. Privileged identity management has emerged as a high priority for security professionals as a way to mitigate these risks, satisfy more stringent compliance and audit demands surrounding trusted insiders and third parties, and securing expanding virtual and public/private cloud deployments.
"The '794 patent protects core technologies in the Xsuite privileged identity management platform," noted John Suit, Chief Technology Officer at Xceedium. "Originally applied for in early 2007, this patent provides evidence of Xceedium's long-standing thought leadership and role as the inventor of modern privileged identity management. Xsuite employs many other unique technologies which we expect to form the basis of a robust patent portfolio," Suit added.
Technologies covered by the patent support capabilities delivered in Xceedium's Xsuite® privileged identity management product. Xsuite controls access, monitors, and records all activities of privileged users, both internal and external. Xsuite positively verifies users via multiple authentication mechanisms, including PIV/CAC and other smart cards, enterprise directories such as Active Directory and LDAP, Radius, and other methods. Xsuite establishes and enforces security policies protecting sensitive systems across traditional data centers, virtualized infrastructure, and public and private clouds. Xsuite provides full attribution of user activities, regardless of what resources they access. Xsuite vaults and manages credentials, federates identities, and protects systems regardless of where they’re located; helping to reduce risk, ensure compliance, and lower administrative overhead.
