SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf will attend the RSA Conference 2014 in San Francisco on Wednesday, February 26, to support SnoopWall, the world’s first counterveillance security software company. “Counterveillance” is new software that helps prevent cyber-intrusion, unauthorized spying, snooping and stealing personal and/or corporate information. While anti-virus and firewall software products provide a degree of protection, cyber crooks and snoops can easily access smartphones & mobile devices through open data ports and nasty new malware/spyware hidden in “trusted” Apps.
Wolf will be present at SnoopWall’s Booth (No. 2538 in the South Hall of the Moscone Center) on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 between 11AM & 6PM. Between those hours Cassidy will be available to meet the press and public, to sign autographs and take photographs.
Wolf and SnoopWall have jointly created a helpful Infographic titled “Ten Tips to Reclaim Your Privacy and Keep Out The Cyber Snoops,” downloadable at: teentips.snoopwall.com.
Wolf has already raised awareness about cyber safety as a result of her own experience. Wolf suffered personally from someone hacking into her computer and invading her privacy by taking photos of her without her knowledge through her webcam. The story was covered by media across the nation and Wolf was interviewed on programs including NBC’s TODAY show and CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront. In the interviews, Wolf revealed that she had received an anonymous e-mail from a stranger saying he was in possession of private photos and who threatened to extort her in return for ensuring the photos were not made public. “I wasn’t aware that somebody was watching me on my webcam. The light on the camera did not even go on, so I had no idea. The camera captured things that a person does in the privacy of your own room that you would never expect to be watched,” said Wolf.
The 19-year-old from California became a fulltime college student at Joffrey Ballet School in New York City after being crowned Miss Teen USA 2013 in August. Wolf continues her mission to inform others about the growing threats from cyber snoops, hackers and criminals by sharing her story through speeches at schools, and public events.
“I feel as though this unfortunate tragedy was supposed to happen to me so I can use my voice to help stop this from happening to other people,” says Wolf. “Unless we take important steps to protect ourselves, Americans of all ages are at risk for privacy violations. As SnoopWall strongly shares my mission to educate the public about online privacy, I’m happy to support and join them at the RSA Conference to call attention to this growing issue.”
“SnoopWall is honored to have the support of Miss Teen USA and we applaud her active campaign to stop the snoops,” said Gary Miliefsky, President of SnoopWall. “After all the recent well publicized intrusions (NSA spying and using Angry Birds as one of their backdoors, Facebook/Google privacy, cyber theft at Target and other retailers,) Cassidy and SnoopWall stand together to meet the vision proclaimed in a recent Huffington Post article: that 2014 will be The Year of Counterveillance.”
SnoopWall’s counterveillance software flags and prevents cyber security threats and also functions as a “port authority”: detecting and blocking remote control, spying and eavesdropping through attempted intrusions into cameras, webcams, microphones, GPS, USB, other ports of entry on computers, smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices (running on the Google Android, Microsoft Windows, and Apple iOS platforms).
