Connexall and Welch Allyn Team on Secondary Alarms for Monitors

Mobile Clinicians Receive Contextual Information for Any Alarm on the Way to the Bedside

HIMSS14

BOULDER, Colo. & TORONTO--()--Connexall, a leading international provider of a hospital-wide interoperability engine, announced today the integration of the Welch Allyn Connex® Clinical Surveillance System into its library of device integrations, adding further capabilities to the deepest library of connections available anywhere for immediate off-the-shelf device connectivity.

The Joint Commission’s April 2013 Sentinel Event Alert on medical device alarm safety recommends that hospitals take control of the alarms and alerts originating from myriad medical devices and information systems. Connexall’s industry-leading alarm management and event notification platform addresses this critical issue, providing a granularity of routing with on-the-fly configuration flexibility to meet any clinical need. The Connexall solution also includes a robust reporting package to provide hospitals the information they need at any time in any department in order to assess the effectiveness of their alarm management protocols.

The Welch Allyn 3rd Party Notification Interface, based on the IHE ACM standard, enables communication to the Connexall system. Welch Allyn Connex® Central Station client software communicates with, and collects data from, multiple vital signs monitoring devices. In turn, this data is passed to, and collected by, the Connex Central Station server software. The server then manages the output to a configured Connexall server. Regardless of whether a standalone central station is used or an additional client server, the logical behavior and flow of the communication is identical, with only the physical distribution of the software components changing.

“Connexall is pleased to collaborate with Welch Allyn to manage secondary alarm notifications for their industry-leading physiological monitors,” said John Elms, president at Connexall. “By applying the best-practices learned in more than 1,100 healthcare facilities, Connexall in collaboration with Welch Allyn can help our shared customers safely meet the Joint Commission mandates for alarm management.”

“The Welch Allyn Connex Clinical Surveillance System is designed specifically for continuous monitoring on the med/surg floor—one of the most difficult-to-manage care areas,” said Dave Perkins, senior manager, Acute Care Marketing at Welch Allyn. “Our partnership with Connexall helps us get the right information to the clinician wherever they are.”

Connexall and Welch Allyn will be showing their combined solutions at HIMSS. See Connexall at booth 3102 and Welch Allyn at booth 3521.
