MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will celebrate National Engineers Week, February 17-20, by recognizing its 6,000 engineers and scientists at events at Harris locations and announcing awards for significant technical and engineering accomplishments during the past year.
Throughout the week, the company will conduct technology demonstrations, seminars and contests designed to highlight innovative thinking. Featured guest speakers include Dr. Guy A. Boy, university professor and director of the Human-Centered Design Institute at the Florida Institute of Technology, and Dr. Gregory Welch, the Florida Hospital Endowed Chair in Healthcare Simulation at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing.
Students and faculty from local public high schools also are invited to attend presentations, tour Harris facilities, and hold career discussions with Harris engineers.

As part of the weeklong events, the company named John Nieto the 2014 recipient of the Harris Corporation Fellow Award — the company's highest recognition for engineering achievement. Nieto, a 29-year Harris employee and senior scientist with the Harris RF Communications segment in Rochester, New York, will be honored at the company's annual Fellows Banquet.
National Engineers Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of, and interest in, engineering and technology careers. It is a formal coalition of more than 70 engineering, education, and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies.
