DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mary Curliss Patton, Director of Regulatory – Northern Marcellus Shale Division of Range Resources – Appalachia, LLC, will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting of the Women’s Energy Network (WEN) – North Texas Chapter on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, 777 Main Street #4000. Dr. Scott W. Tinker, Director of the Bureau of Economic Geology in the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin, will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting of WEN on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Dallas Petroleum Club, 2200 Ross Avenue. Registration for both events will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the luncheon from noon-1:00 p.m.
Patton will discuss regulatory compliance, specifically discussing how the oil and gas industry protects ground water with best practices which are enforced by state and federal regulations. Her presentation will also highlight the Environmental Protection Agency’s emergency order placed on Range Resources Corporation on December 7, 2010, and the outcome of the resulting investigation surrounding the alleged contamination of private and public water sources in Parker and Hood Counties, Texas. A question-and-answer session will follow her presentation.
Patton is the Director of Regulatory – Northern Marcellus Shale Division for Range Resources – Appalachia, LLC and is responsible for regulatory compliance in the northern half of Pennsylvania. Her experience with water protection regulations in Texas has proven useful in Pennsylvania where she also manages gas migration investigations. Prior to her current position, she worked for Range Resources on the Barnett Shale team, where she was very active in advising local government bodies on drafting responsible and practical municipal regulations for industry operations which included horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing techniques.
“We are pleased to announce Mary Patton as our speaker for the March Fort Worth luncheon,” said Diana Frazier, 2014 WEN North Texas Chapter President. “We look forward to her presentation on regulatory compliance and her in-depth discussion on the EPA and Range Resources water contamination litigation in the Barnett Shale.”
Patton is a registered Professional Engineer with the State of Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. Since then, she has held various positions working for the Railroad Commission of Texas, Chevron USA, Hunt Oil Company, Union Pacific Resources, United Resources, and Nexen. While at Union Pacific Resources, Patton worked in the Austin Chalk, East Texas and Rocky Mountain plays which made Union Pacific the most active driller in the nation at the time. Prior to her career at Range Resources, Patton’s work focused on managing state and federal regulations compliance, and she has testified several times before the Texas Railroad Commission for rule changes and special permits.
Dr. Scott W. Tinker will present “The 21st Century Energy Scene: It’s not your Father’s Industry!” at the March Dallas luncheon. A question-and-answer session will follow his presentation.
Tinker is the director of the Bureau of Economic Geology in the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin. The Bureau functions as the State Geological Survey of Texas, and its research centers on the intersection of energy, the environment and the economy. The Bureau partners with federal, state and local agencies, academic institutions, industry, non-profit organizations and foundations to conduct high-quality research and disseminate the results to the scientific and engineering communities as well as the broad public. In addition to his position with the Bureau, Tinker is the State Geologist of Texas, a professor holding the Allday Endowed Chair and acting Associate Dean of Research in the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin, and director of the Advanced Energy Consortium.
“WEN North Texas is honored to welcome Scott W. Tinker as the featured speaker for our March 2014 luncheon in Dallas,” said Frazier. “Dr. Tinker’s expansive geological expertise and industry experience will provide our membership with lucrative insight into complex environmental and economic issues facing the oil and gas industry today.”
Tinker worked 17 years in the oil and gas industry prior to joining the University of Texas at Austin in 2000. He is past President of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Association of American State Geologists, and the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies. He has been a Distinguished Lecturer for the AAPG and Society of Petroleum Engineers, a Distinguished Ethics Lecturer for the AAPG, and the Geological Society of America (GSA) Halbouty Distinguished Lecturer. Tinker is a Fellow of the GSA, has received the American Geoscience Institute Outstanding Contribution to the Public Understanding of the Geosciences award and the American Institute of Professional Geologists John T. Galey, Sr., Memorial Public Service Award, and was named a “Top Producer in Texas” by Texas Monthly magazine. Tinker holds appointments on the National Petroleum Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, sits on the Geoscience Advisory Board at Sandia National Lab, and is a Southwest Research Institute Trustee.
