Scribes STAT Rebrands as Essia Health, Appoints New President and CEO

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--()--Scribes STAT, Inc., today announced that the company has been rebranded as Essia Health and Matthew J. Kirchner has been appointed president and chief executive officer. The changes position the company for its next phase of rapid growth in the electronic medical record (EMR) optimization space.

Based in Portland, Ore., Scribes STAT was founded in 2011 by Kathleen M. Myers, M.D., an emergency room physician who realized at-the-elbow support could dramatically transform the adoption of EMR technologies to improve physician productivity as well as patient satisfaction. In addition to providing specially trained medical scribes to healthcare organizations throughout the U.S., the company specializes in EMR implementation services and has successfully completed more than 100 EMR go-lives with major hospital networks and specialty clinics.

“The Essia Health brand encompasses both our medical scribe and EMR implementation services, and positions us well for future growth in these areas,” Kirchner said. “We operate at the intersection of patient care and information technology, which is an essential role in today’s healthcare environment. That concept is the root of our new brand, and it’s all about enabling healthcare providers to simultaneously focus on patients and harness the fullest potential of EMR technologies.”

Scribes STAT founder and former CEO Dr. Myers has been appointed chief medical officer and will continue to serve on the board of directors. In her new role, Dr. Myers will continue to oversee the quality of Essia Health’s programs, including ongoing training and education, as well as develop new services.

Kirchner will be based in Essia Health’s newly opened regional office in Woodland Hills, Calif. In addition to his president and CEO roles, Kirchner will also serve on the company’s board of directors. He brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in sales, marketing and consulting in various industries, including medical device, biotech, pharmaceutical and healthcare services. He previously held positions at Medtronic, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, Lehman Brothers and Campbell Alliance. Kirchner received a master of business administration from Duke University and bachelor’s degree from Occidental College.

The announcements follow an investment by Camden Partners Holdings, LLC, in May 2013. As part of the investment, Camden placed three new board members: John B. Grotting, former CEO of Ascent Healthcare Solutions and board director of Vocera Communications, as executive chairman; Thomas P. Cooper, M.D., chairman of Hanger Orthopedics, lead director of IPC The Hospitalist Company and board director of Kindred Healthcare, as board member; and Christopher W. Kersey, managing member at Camden who led the transaction, as board member.
