BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As if finding true love isn’t difficult enough, a new study reveals that for men, the secret to finding that perfect partner may be in spending less time toning that physique and more time honing their inner geek.
That nationwide survey, conducted online in December among over 2,000 U.S. adults by Harris Interactive on behalf of Crucial.com, revealed that when asked to choose between these two specific types of men, a resounding 84% of women who prefer to be involved with men prefer their male love interest to be “super handy” with computers and gadgets over one that spends lots of time at the gym (15%). So potent is the “gadget geek” appeal that over two-thirds (66%) of women think that men have claimed to know more about technology than they actually do in order to impress a woman.
“As technology has become a necessity for most, it’s no surprise that a new generation of tech-savvy men are winning over the hearts and minds of their female counterparts,” said Dr. John Gray, relationship expert and author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. “We are undergoing a power shift of sorts, a techno-sexual revolution where the traditional relationship laws of attraction are adapting to culture’s technological use and consumption habits.”
The research also revealed that “Geek Appeal” is gaining momentum as a prime attractant, with 68% of Americans agreeing that women are finding “tech savvy” guys more attractive now than they did 5 years ago.
“The increasing dependence on technology has fueled a demand for the skills of those able to understand, fix, and upgrade computers and gadgets. Once considered a negative stigma that went hand in hand with pocket protectors and taped-up spectacles, today’s version of technological know-how is often seen as an indicator of stability, success and long term viability when considering a potential love interest,” added Dr. Gray.
That said, the study revealed that men might want to be careful about inflating their tech prowess in order to impress women, as nearly 1 in 10 (9%) of women said they would throw their relationship to the curb if their love interest’s tech-savvy proved less than originally boasted.
“The techno-sexual is a modern day knight in shining armor who is able to help those that find themselves in a sudden state of tech-induced distress,” said Roddy McLean, marketing director at Crucial.com. “As technology continues to impact our daily lives, there is a growing realization that the process of fixing and upgrading computers and gadgets is often times an easy do-it-yourself project. At Crucial.com, it is our aim to empower people to understand more about how to get the most out of their system.”
