DeVry Brasil’s Favip Achieves Centro Universitário Status

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.--()--DeVry Brasil, a part of DeVry Education Group (NYSE:DV), today announced that one of its institutions, Faculdade Vale Ipojuca (Favip), received official notice from the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) granting it Centro Universitário status. This achievement is a strong marker of quality and enables the institution to expand the number of programs it offers.

Favip will change its name from Faculdade Vale Ipojuca to Centro Universitário Vale do Ipojuca (Unifavip). Located in Caruaru, the institution currently serves 6,500 students and offers 30 undergraduate and graduate programs.

“DeVry Brasil is proud to have achieved Centro Universitário status at Unifavip,” said Carlos Alberto Filgueiras Degas, president of DeVry Brasil. “This is a tremendous accomplishment and is the direct result of the commitment to academic quality that our faculty and staff have offered students for the past 12 years.”

Degas added, “It also increases our ability to respond to local job market needs by launching new programs and increasing capacity to fulfill the demand of the region.”

MEC’s decision to elevate Unifavip took into consideration the number of recognized courses that it offers, the breadth of the institution’s programs across all areas of education, and the quality of its faculty, including contributions to scientific research and community outreach.
