WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--()--Kopin® Corporation (NASDAQ:KOPN), the largest U.S. manufacturer of display systems for mobile, wearable and military applications, announced its patent-pending Augmented Reality (AR) Weapon Sight Technology which is targeted for multiple US Army weapon sight platforms. Kopin’s AR Weapon Sight Technology was developed for high performance weapon sights programs including the U.S. Army’s XM25 airburst weapon platform and the Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) day scope used by the U.S. Special Forces in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

“Kopin’s AR Weapon Sight Technology is a heads-up display system, which is designed for viewing through a conventional direct view optic (DVO) weapon sight,” said Michael Presz, Kopin’s Vice President of Government Programs and Special Projects. “The optical system allows the user to target through the sight while viewing symbology in bright daylight conditions or video imagery combined with symbology, which is overlaid on the night scene. With our innovative AR technology consisting of Kopin’s patented transmissive microdisplay, specialized backlighting design, beam combiner optics and advanced low-power symbol generator, we are able to achieve ultra-high brightness levels typical of larger systems like our Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Helmet Mounted Display while being powered by a set of commercially available AA batteries. This advanced see-through overlay display system works in conjunction with a laser range finder and ballistic calculator to greatly enhance targeting effectiveness at longer ranges”

“Kopin has made significant investments over the past several years in augmented reality technology for man-portable battery-operated systems,” stated Dr. John C. C. Fan, President and CEO of Kopin Corporation. “Our impressive AR technology is being targeted at sophisticated defense weapon sight programs which forecast procurement of thousands of units over a multi-year production period. Our technology is directly applicable to emerging consumer and industrial wearable markets. This cross-fertilization of technology developments between our defense and commercial groups leverages our R&D investments in various market areas.”
