SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte., Ltd., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Toshiba Corporation, today announced that TOS Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., its wholly owned subsidiary in Kuala Lumpur, will expand its activities and reinforce its operating capabilities. Established in 2003 to promote the Energy Systems business, the company will now add social infrastructure to its business portfolio, allowing Toshiba to offer customers a one-stop solution in key business segments and in products ranging from power plants to industrial products such as motors and drives.
The reinforcement of TOS Energy Malaysia will allow Toshiba to provide closer support for Malaysia’s continuing development. Under Wawasan 2020 (Vision 2020), the Malaysian government is promoting an Economic Transformation Programme with the aim of becoming a fully developed country by 2020. The country, Southeast Asia’s third largest economy, is ranked second in Southeast Asia in the World Bank’s Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), and government forecasts indicate growth of between 5 and 5.5 percent in 2014.
Toshiba has been doing business in Malaysia since 1968, initially in consumer products. Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte., Ltd. established a Malaysia Representative Office in Kuala Lumpur in 2001 to support sales of industrial systems, and this function will now be transferred to TOS Energy Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., which last year celebrated 10 years of providing power systems. By adding comprehensive capabilities in social infrastructure to its existing business, the company will be able to deliver a comprehensive suite of Toshiba’s core products and systems to customers in Malaysia.
The Malaysia reinforcement is aligned with Toshiba Group’s strategy of strengthening sales operations in promising markets. Last year, Toshiba Asia Pacific (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was established to promote the social infrastructure business in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia’s social infrastructure sectors. Toshiba enhanced its presence in Myanmar by establishing with a branch office in Yangon, and Toshiba (Philippines), Inc. added a new division to handle the social infrastructure business.
