TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As Verizon Wireless marks the third anniversary of the launch of 4G LTE technology in Florida, customers in the state have proven to be among the nation’s most prolific users of the advanced wireless network.
Floridians currently use Verizon 4G LTE technology to make hundreds of millions of high-speed data connections – internet downloads and uploads, emails, photo and video texts, tweets and more – each day, and the numbers continue to increase.
“Our customers have completed billions of connections since launch,” said Frank Wise, network executive director for the Verizon Wireless Florida region. “But we’re not surprised, as Florida has always been one of the most mobile and tech-hungry markets in the country.”
Verizon launched 4G LTE during December 2010 in the state’s largest markets, and has been rapidly reinforcing and expanding 4G LTE coverage and services since then – the technology now covers 99 percent of Florida’s population. Nationally, Verizon operates the largest 4G LTE wireless network, covering more than 303 million people in all 50 states.
Verizon Florida engineers celebrated the technology’s third anniversary with informal celebrations at the state’s first 4G LTE cell site in Oviedo, and one of its newest sites in Tampa.
“They were more like working parties, as we continue to upgrade and install more 4G LTE technology to stay ahead of this demand and move even further in front of our competitors. The celebration really was for our customers,” Wise said.
So far in 2013, Verizon engineers have activated nearly 1,000 4G LTE cell sites and have completed many other upgrades in Florida to reinforce and expand service in the state.
High-speed 4G LTE enhances customer experiences in making voice calls, sending e-mails, text and photo messages, connecting to the internet and accessing tens of thousands of applications, games, video, music and many other features from a phone, tablet or other device.
