SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN), a leading provider of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise, today announced that Rock Paper Scissors/A52, a leading offline editorial company that edits for the world's top directors, studios and advertisers, has deployed a new enterprise-wide unified wired and wireless access network based on Aruba’s Mobile Virtual Enterprise (MOVE) architecture. The new network, which utilizes Aruba’s 802.11ac technology, is allowing the New York and Los Angeles-based creative firm to improve productivity and enable real-time collaboration amongst its staff and clients. In addition, Rock Paper Scissors/A52’s deployment of Aruba AirGroup is allowing the firm to manage the high level of Apple Bonjour traffic generated in its two offices.
To boost productivity and improve collaboration, Rock Paper Scissors/A52 wanted to create a highly mobile environment enterprise-wide that would allow its producers and editors to easily access client projects and corporate resources from anywhere in their offices, on either their mobile devices or wired desktops. With a large number of clients visiting daily to view the status of projects, Rock Paper Scissors/A52 also needed to deliver reliable guest access. Since the firm routinely works with multi-hundred gigabyte high-definition video files and high bandwidth applications such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier and Autodesk Maya, Rock Paper Scissors/A52 also needed their new mobile infrastructure to support immense throughput and speed. After evaluating solutions from Xirrus, Extreme Networks and Aruba, Rock Paper Scissors/A52 selected the Aruba MOVE architecture, including Aruba’s 802.11ac solution and worked with Aruba partner DZ Solutions for the deployment.
“We have a lot of producers and assistant editors that will walk from editing bay to visual effects bay and back with their laptops and mobile devices in hand, uploading and downloading huge video files and taking care of clients,” said Kevin Bass, chief engineer for Rock Paper Scissors/A52. “In the past, they had to sit down somewhere, plug in and wait, hampering productivity and collaboration. With our new Aruba infrastructure, transitions between work locations are virtually seamless. We have both the mobility we need and the bandwidth and speed our projects require.”
Aruba’s 802.11ac solution is the first in the industry to deliver gigabit Wi-Fi combined with the device density and application intelligence required by today’s Wi-Fi networks. The solution consists of Aruba’s 220 Series access points (APs), which are purpose-built for the 802.11ac standard, and Aruba’s patented ClientMatch technology, which ensures that “sticky” clients are always connected to the best possible AP as they roam within the Aruba wireless LAN (WLAN). Aruba’s 802.11ac solution ensures that every client – whether it be 802.11n- or 802.11ac-based – benefits from the increased speed and capacity offered by the 802.11ac standard.

In addition to the Aruba 220 Series 802.11ac APs, the firm’s new network includes Aruba Mobility Controllers, S3500 Mobility Access Switches, the AirWave Network Management System and Aruba’s AirGroup capability. The AirGroup capability was a key consideration for Rock Paper Scissors/A52 since 90 percent of the firm’s wireless devices and 75 percent of their wired devices are Apple iOS-based. With Aruba AirGroup, the firm can now efficiently manage the high level of Apple Bonjour traffic that was previously overwhelming the network.
Network management was also important to Rock Paper Scissors/A52 as they wanted better and more granular visibility into their network. Aruba’s AirWave Network Management System met their requirements, employing a user-centric approach to identify users on the network, where they are accessing the network, the mobile devices they are using and how much bandwidth is being consumed by specific devices.
Looking ahead, Rock Paper Scissors/A52 is confident that its new Aruba unified wired/wireless infrastructure will be able to meet its growing needs. Said Bass, “With this new infrastructure, we are ahead of the curve in being able to support our future mobility and bandwidth requirements.”
