Surgical Spotlight: Live Surgery Featuring the ATTUNE® Knee System with TRUMATCH® Personalized Solutions Instrumentation

FARMINGTON, Conn.--()--BroadcastMed, Inc. is proud to highlight the first ORLive surgical webcast featuring the ATTUNE® Knee System with TRUMATCH® Personalized Solutions Instrumentation on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 6:00 PM Eastern at http://depuysynthes.orlive.com/attunetrumatch. Orthopaedic surgeon Daniel Hoeffel, MD,* will perform the surgery and Mark Pagnano, MD*, will moderate.

The surgery will be webcast live from Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury, Minnesota. Viewers are encouraged to email their questions, which will be answered live on the webcast.

Created as a result of more than six years of extensive research to address unmet patient, surgeon and provider needs, the ATTUNE Knee is an advancement in knee replacement options. It is designed to provide better range of motion and address the unstable feeling some patients experience during everyday activities, such as stair descent and bending. To date, more than 18,000 patients1 have received the ATTUNE Knee System.

TRUMATCH Personalized Solutions has designed over 20,000 patient specific plans worldwide and offers surgeons the choice between the TRUMATCH Solutions Resection Guide and TRUMATCH Solutions Pin Guide.2

TRUMATCH Solutions was designed to increase procedural efficiency by reducing the number of instrument trays, eliminate up to nine surgical steps compared to traditional knee replacement and deliver the guides sterile and ready to use, which may decrease hospital costs. TRUMATCH Solutions also uses CT technology rather than MRIs, which can result in improved bone imaging, less scanning time and lower costs.3

The patient scheduled for the live surgery is a 53 year old female, 5’7”, 250lbs, a BMI of 39 (class II obesity4) with a long history of right knee pain and significant degenerative joint disease as well as rheumatoid arthritis. She has end-stage changes with complete loss of the medial and patellofemoral joint spaces. She has been a patient of Dr. Hoeffel’s for three years and has been treated with multiple injections, which are no longer effective. The pain in her right knee is now significantly affecting her quality of life, activities of daily living and ability to work.

Important Safety Information

The performance of hip or knee replacements depends on a patient’s age, weight, activity level and other factors. There are potential risks and recovery takes time. People with conditions limiting rehabilitation should not have these surgeries. Only an orthopaedic surgeon can determine if hip or knee replacement is necessary based on an individual patient's condition.
