MUNICH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Expanding its membership base in Brazil, the Open Standard for Public Transport (OSPT™) Alliance today announced that Planeta Informática, a leading provider of smartcard-based telecom and automation solutions, has joined as a Full Member. Planeta Informática’s long experience in public transportation consulting and support will help accelerate development of new solutions based on open standards that enable public transport operators to more easily migrate existing fare collection systems and achieve greater security, interoperability, and cost-effectiveness.
“We are delighted to welcome Planeta Informática to the OSPT Alliance,” said Laurent Cremer, executive director for the OSPT Alliance. “Brazil is an important market for electronic fare collection and Planeta Informática has earned a well respected position for its consulting and development offerings. We look forward to helping accelerate development of innovative public transportation fare collection solutions in the Brazilian market.”
Planeta Informática has provided consulting and security expertise to the Brazilian public transportation market for more than a decade. The firm has developed a wide range of smart card solutions for telecommunications, automated vending, and industrial automation applications. It also provides a full range of products from bus validators through hardware security modules, secure access modules, and recharge terminals. Planeta Informática focuses on helping customers reduce their costs, improve interoperability, enhance security, and increase performance. The company expects to expand its product range using contactless secure access module and CIPURSE™ technologies.
“We share a similar vision for open solutions with other members of the OSPT Alliance,” said Artur Costa, chief executive officer of Planeta Informática LTDA. “Customers should not have to reinvent the wheel and assume high risks with each implementation or upgrade. With the CIPURSE open standard, we can develop new solutions that help customers simplify their ticketing operations, greatly reduce costs, and gain a bridge from their existing platforms to new capabilities, enhanced security, and far greater interoperability.”
The OSPT Alliance offers the CIPURSE open security standard to address transit authorities’ need for future-proof fare collection systems with advanced security. As an open standard, CIPURSE promotes vendor neutrality and cross-vendor system interoperability with reduced technology adoption risks, higher quality and improved market responsiveness—all of which can result in lower operating costs and greater flexibility for transport system operators. CIPURSE also offers a global basis for rapidly migrating transit fare systems to NFC-enabled mobile phones and other devices, and the standard supports the adoption of NFC transit applications for a truly future-proof solution.
