City of Wichita, Kansas Offering Business Credit Monitoring Product for Free to Businesses Affected by City’s Website Security Breach

Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp.’s CreditAlert™ product will alert businesses when changes take place in their credit report

LOS ANGELES--()--Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. announced today that it is working with the City of Wichita, Kansas to offer a free credit monitoring solution to businesses affected by the hacking of the city’s electronic procurement site. The city’s website was victim to the hacking over the weekend of October 5th, exposing Social Security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, and banking numbers of nearly 29,000 local vendors and employers.

“Since we were alerted of the security breach, we have worked diligently to notify all of those whose information was compromised and are committed to offer as many precautionary options as possible to hopefully ensure no fraudulent activity arises from this incident,” explained Wichita City Manager Robert Layton. “By working with the team at Dun & Bradstreet Credibility, we can provide businesses with a free option to proactively monitor their business credit.”

Starting November 21st, Dun & Bradstreet Credibility will offer all businesses affected a CreditAlert product that will alert them to changes taking place in their business credit file, when such changes occur. Those affected will be offered the service for free for six months (annual price of $199.00). Changes as small as adjustments to a business’ office address or a company officer change will set off an alert to the business owner to a possible fraudulent change to their business credit file.

“Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. is honored to offer help to the businesses who have fallen victim to this security breach. Giving these employers the access to monitor the activity in their business credit file will give them back the power to stay in control of their business credit,” said Jeff Stibel, Chairman and CEO, Dun & Bradstreet Credibility Corp. “These types of security breaches are becoming more and more commonplace and we recommend that businesses monitor their business credit on a regular basis to help avoid having their business become a victim of fraud, theft or even identity theft.”

Affected business owners can visit http://www.dandb.com/wichita beginning November 21st, or they can call customer service toll free at this dedicated phone number 855-315-1464 to register for their free CreditAlert product until the end of this year. For any other questions regarding the breach, vendors can also call the City’s hotline number at 316-268-4100.
