OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navis, the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced that DP World Australia has reached a major milestone, completing Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS) upgrades on three of four planned DP World sites. DP World Sydney, DP World Fremantle and, now, DP World Melbourne have concluded essential TOS implementations and are fully operational, forming the foundation needed for the company’s centralized and standardized technology approach for its terminals.
“Over the last few years, DP World has embarked on a major infrastructure and technology upgrade across its Australian terminals in order to deliver higher levels of service to our customers,” said Ganesh Raj, Managing Director at DP World Australia. “With our sophisticated systems in place, we are focused on delivering efficiency and helping customers effectively manage their supply chains. Navis’ N4 TOS is the critical link that will enable us to deliver on these promises, providing greater reliability and integration of port technologies across our terminals as a result,” stated Raj.
As container volumes continue to grow, further investments in technology by DP World Australia have become essential. With 19 systems running across its terminal network at any given time, DP World Australia needed to centralize and standardize its operating technologies in order to remain agile and responsive to evolving customer needs. With N4 running at three sites, and a planned implementation in Brisbane in early 2014, N4 provides critical support for port technology covering gates, kiosks and rail, and offers improved functionality and efficiency in vessel and yard planning.
“DP World Australia remains on the forefront of innovation, and its continued investment demonstrates the organization’s deep understanding of the critical role that technology will play in the future of the container terminal industry,” said Bill Walsh, president and CEO, Navis. “From its successful use at 85 terminals around the world, N4 is the proven platform for DP World Australia to realize its vision of improving key operations and delivering excellent service to its customers.”
To date, the N4 implementations have already yielded significant improvements in productivity and efficiency for DP World Australia. The fourth and final N4 implementation is currently in progress at DP World Brisbane and is expected to be operational by Q1 2014. During this time, Navis and DP World have partnered together to complete rigorous system testing as well as conduct necessary operator education and training to ensure success before, during and after the official go-live. With N4 in place, Brisbane will vastly improve the safety, reliability, as well as the availability and flexibility of the terminal. Once complete, Brisbane will be the first automated operation for DP World Australia.
N4 is Navis’ latest generation TOS that gives terminal operators a flexible and scalable platform needed to optimize their operations, either for a single terminal or for multiple terminals spanning numerous geographic locations that can be managed from one central location.
