LAKE FOREST, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lake Forest Graduate School of Management (LFGSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ed Carney, President & CEO of Superior Graphite Company, to its Board of Directors. Elected to the Board in September 2013, Carney will serve on the Board’s Finance & Audit Committee. In 2010, LFGSM honored Carney, an LFGSM Class of 2001 alumnus, with its Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a business leader and contributions to the wider business community.

Carney joined Superior Graphite in 1991; he has served as its President since 1998 and as President & CEO since 2001. Prior to assuming his role as President & CEO, Carney served as President of the company’s start-up operations in Europe (Copenhagen, Denmark and Sundsvall, Sweden). Before joining Superior Graphite, Carney was a Securities Analyst for Danske Bank in Copenhagen, Denmark from 1984 to 1987, where he had responsibility for selling foreign stocks to Danish individuals and institutions. From 1984 to 1987 Carney held several positions, including credit analyst and banker, with United Bank in Denver (now Wells Fargo Bank).

Carney holds a BA from Colorado College and an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. Carney served on LFGSM’s Business Advisory Council from 2007 to 2013. Active in community service, he has served as a member of the Museum of Science and Industry’s Science Storms Advisory Committee, and a board member of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce, The Winter Club of Lake Forest and Canterbury School (New Milford, CT). He has also coached youth soccer, hockey and baseball.
