LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park), San Gabriel Valley Water Company and California American Water will distribute over 200 turkeys to local non-profits at World Journal Headquarters located at 1588 Corporate Center Drive, Monterey Park, CA on Thursday, November 14, as part of the 23rd annual “Operation Gobble” program.
Operation Gobble is a joint philanthropic venture between California water companies and state legislators with a goal of delivering an estimated 30,000 turkeys to at-risk families throughout the state this Thanksgiving holiday.
Since 1990, the program has combined private and public sector resources to benefit those in need. Investor-owned water companies, such as San Gabriel Valley Water Company and California American Water, provide turkeys and delivery services in partnership with local elected officials who offer expertise in directing the donations to community food banks, churches and other non-profit organizations.
"This annual program is devoted to raises awareness about hunger issue in California while helping those who need it most," said State Assemblymember Chau. "This year more than ever, it is important that we all reach out to others in the community to ensure that every Californian doesn't go without a meal this Thanksgiving season."
Local non-profits that will participate in Operation Gobble will include Asian Youth Center, Kiwanis of Temple City, Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 10218, Home of Angels, The Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley, La Casa de San Gabriel and El Monte/South El Monte Emergency Resources Center.
According to the latest study of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research on hunger, 2.9 million Californians lack sufficient resources to feed themselves on a regular basis. Many of these residents are low income families that will not be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal.
