WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thousands of foreclosure cases are expected to be filed in South Florida between now and the end of 2013 as the statute of limitations nears for many homeowners who first defaulted in 2008.
While rising home prices and improvements to the overall economy have improved the outlook for some homeowners, others still face mortgages that they cannot afford, or which are not supported by the home’s value, said Brian Korte, Senior Partner of Korte & Wortman, P.A.
“With the five-year statute of limitations approaching for people who defaulted in 2008, we expect banks to accelerate their foreclosure filings before the end of the year,” Korte said.
Korte & Wortman has set aside Tuesday, November 19 for open consultations in both its West Palm Beach and Tamarac offices. Homeowners struggling to make mortgage payments or facing foreclosure can visit either office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for a free 30-minute consultation. No appointment is needed. After-hours consultations also will be available by appointment. Call 561-228-6200 for the West Palm Beach office or 954-256-0047 for the Tamarac office.
“The cases likely to be filed by the end of the year are homeowners who saw drastic changes in their household incomes as a result of the economy bottoming out, and who have not felt the effects of the recovery,” Korte said. “Unfortunately, many families will receive notices in the mail along with holiday greeting cards.”
“The good news is that some lenders have become more willing to work with homeowners on mortgage modifications or accept deeds in lieu of foreclosure,” he continued. “We’ll let owners know all the options available to them based on their family’s needs.”
Korte & Wortman’s West Palm Beach office is located at 2041 Vista Parkway, Suite 102, off Okeechobee Boulevard just west of Florida’s Turnpike. The firm’s Tamarac office is located at 4774 Commercial Blvd. at the Turnpike.
