Ebates.com Holiday Gift Survey: Kids Say iPhone is #1 on Wish List

Sony PlayStation 4 beats out Microsoft Xbox One among gamer wish lists; Legos rank as top choice for toy gifts

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Ebates.com, the pioneer and leader in online cash back shopping, today announced results from its 2013 edition of its annual Ebates Holiday Gift Survey that revealed a majority (88 percent) of teens would most like to receive an electronic gift this year, with more than half (69 percent) requesting an Apple device.

The national survey conducted online by TNS on behalf of Ebates.com in October 2013 found that the Apple iPhone was the most popular electronic gift requested by teens (32 percent), followed by the Apple iPad (24 percent) and Sony PlayStation 4 (20 percent). The Xbox One (13 percent) and Apple iPod (13 percent) rounded off the top five gift choices of American children between 12 and 17 years old.

Top electronic gift choices for teens vary by gender, with the #1 electronic gift for girls being an Apple iPhone (41 percent), vs. a Sony PlayStation 4 for boys (28 percent).

The survey found that this year, parents have a good grip on what gifts will be popular with the teen set. More than half of adults (54 percent) also ranked Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, or iPod as the top electronic gifts they think children under the age of 18 years old would most like to receive. Additional findings from the survey show that like the teens, adults ranked the Sony PlayStation 4 (43 percent) as the electronic top gift choice to follow an Apple device—beating out the Microsoft Xbox One gaming console (33 percent).

Other popular electronics include:

  • Call of Duty Ghosts (desired by 12 percent of teens vs. 18 percent of adults)
  • Samsung Galaxy smartphone (12 percent of teens vs. 36 percent of adults)
  • Grand Theft Auto 5 (10 percent of teens vs. 24 percent of adults)
  • Samsung Smartwatch (4 percent of teens vs. 13 percent of adults)

When it came to top picks of non-electronic gift items, both parents and teens chose a gift card to their favorite store as the #1 item.
