DUARTE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Understanding that innovation and inclusion are vital to an effective partnership with our patients and the community at large, City of Hope is proud to announce the launch of a Chinese-language website, cn.cityofhope.org, with content focused specifically on the needs of Chinese-speaking patients, caregivers and their families.
Websites in languages other than English are rare among hospital and medical centers in the United States; City of Hope is now the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center on the West Coast to provide a Chinese language site. The effort is a reflection of City of Hope’s commitment to more effectively look for inclusive ways to serve, connect and understand our diverse communities.
“City of Hope was founded 100 years ago on the principle of service to humanity. Our new Chinese language website helps us to further achieve our mission in a meaningful way,” said City of Hope President Robert Stone.
City of Hope is located in the San Gabriel Valley; this area includes a population that is 29% Chinese, and a significant percentage of that population speaks and reads Chinese as their primary language. The new website strengthens the bond between this population and City of Hope itself, already a leader in culturally competent care, innovative research, prevention and education.
“Our commitment at City of Hope is to better serve the residents of our own community in a way that reflects the increasingly important role that diverse populations, including Chinese Americans, play in our area, and we are making every effort to be proactive in our outreach to those populations,” said Stephanie Neuvirth, Chief Human Resources and Diversity Officer at City of Hope.
“The City of Hope Chinese website offers a wealth of information that can benefit every Chinese American,” said Tina Tai, program director of the Chinese American Coalition for Compassionate Care. “Congratulations!”
“City of Hope has been a leader in cancer research, and the launching of the Chinese website is good news for Chinese cancer patients and their families,” said Maggie Lee, Relay for Life event chair for the American Cancer Society.
The website contains specific content for the Chinese speaking community, especially those who may not be familiar with City of Hope, including information on the institution’s background, how to become a patient and how to search for physicians, many of whom speak Chinese. The website allows for Chinese speakers to better access care and to find Chinese speaking physicians and support.
