Crimson Hexagon’s Technology Utilized to Analyze Social Media Data for Public Good

The program provides academic, not-for-profit and nonpartisan researchers with access to the Crimson Hexagon ForSight™ platform, enabling them to glean important findings that help promote the public good.

  • Harmony Institute: Examining the influence of entertainment on society by monitoring social media conversations surrounding films and social issues.
  • Harvard Business School: Researching how public discourse on social media in China might influence business's behavior, particularly around topics such as pollution and food safety.
  • Harvard Department of Government and Princeton University Department of Politics and Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs: Utilizing social media data in mixed-method analysis of anti-American sentiment, primarily in Arabic-speaking areas of the Middle East and Asia.
  • Harvard’s Berkman Center: Monitoring censorship across language groups on social media, as well as analyzing social mobilization and protest movements, elections, conflicts and financial crises.
  • Institute for Social Research, Norway: Utilizing data to explore a variety of political and social topics, including social media and the new public sphere, the status of freedom of speech in Norway, young adults and social media, and The Norwegian Election Study.
  • MIT Sloan School of Management: Examining the role of social media in social mobilization, including case studies of the London Riots, Occupy Wall Street and anti-Japanese boycotts in China.
  • National Democratic Institute (NDI): Utilizing social media data and real-time information across six countries to gauge how people feel about the democratic process, elections, political parties and women in politics.
  • UN Global Pulse: Utilizing social media data to provide real-time and historical analysis on socio-economic issues affecting vulnerable communities, to help inform program and policy decisions by UN system partners.
  • University of Bamberg, Germany: Analyzing political conversation on social media in Germany, among politicians, candidates, journalists, and members of the public, including during the German election campaign in late summer of 2013.

Crimson Hexagon’s access to the full Twitter Firehose enables the collection and archiving of various global social media content sources.
