SHENZHEN, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK/Ashare stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, and Jazztel, an IBEX 35 company and leading telecommunication service provider with its own network in Spain, have announced that Jazztel’s national high-speed broadband fibre to the home (FTTH) network deployment is progressing satisfactorily and has begun commercial operation.
The FTTH framework agreement, signed between ZTE and Jazztel in November 2012, plans to build a broadband network within two years that would cover three million home and corporate users and bring in a new era for Spain’s broadband market.
Jazztel is a fixed-network operator offering fixed-line voice, data and internet as well as mobile communications services to a user base of more than 1.3 million. In the past three years, Jazztel has seen its users and revenue grow at an annual rate of 20 percent, making it one of the fastest growing operators in Europe. With fixed broadband developing, and bandwidth demand soaring in Spain, Jazztel’s next step was to build its own FTTH network.
ZTE provided Jazztel with an end-to-end turnkey solution that includes a full range of services including equipment, engineering and maintenance. To make the FTTH network future-proof and scalable, ZTE offered a next-generation, integrated full-service optical access platform, the ZXA10 C300. This allows for smooth evolution to next generation passive optical networks (NG PON) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) PON technology.
As Jazztel’s network construction mode calls for a high density of PON ports, ZTE offered 16-port gigabit passive optical network (GPON) boards, the highest port density in the industry, which saves equipment room resources, significantly cuts power consumption, reduces total cost of ownership (TCO), and improves profitability. In addition, ZTE provided a 1+1 (optical network terminal (ONT) + home gateway) home networking solution that delivers high-quality access to diverse services including high speed internet, voice and video. This solution meets Jazztel’s long-term service and bandwidth needs while also enhancing quality of experience and user satisfaction.
“ZTE and Jazztel are both firm believers in continuous technological innovation. ZTE has been leading the industry in fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) deployment with state-of-the-art solutions and extensive commercialisation experience. We are committed to helping Jazztel provide customers with better broadband services, achieve sustainable revenue growth, and boost its competitive edge in Spain. By doing that, we hope to elevate the broadband penetration rate of the country and bring benefits to the general populace,” said Zhu Yongxing, vice president, ZTE.
“We are pleased to carry out this strategic cooperation with ZTE in building our national high-speed broadband FTTH network which will allow more users to enjoy the best of fiber network services in Spain,” said Jose Miguel Garcia Fernandez, Chief Executive Officer of Jazztel. “ We will continue to drive profitable growth and shareholder value going forward.”
In February 2013, research firm Ovum released its latest analysis report on the 2012 global fixed-network market, Market Share Spreadsheet 2012 FTTx, DSL, and CMTS (Units). According to the report, ZTE grabbed the top spot for both PON optical line network (OLT) and optical network unit (ONU)/ONT shipments annually, with 42 percent and 32 percent market share respectively in the two segments.
