UNH-IOL Enables In-House Precision Time Protocol Conformance Testing Through Collaboration with Oregano Systems

Capabilities Showcased at ISPCS 2013

ISPCS 2013

DURHAM, N.H.--()--The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), an independent provider of broad-based testing and standards conformance services for the networking industry, showcased its latest conformance test offering for precision time protocols (PTPs) such as IEEE 1588, C37.238 (Power Profile) and 802.1as “generalized” PTP (gPTP) at the International Symposium for Precision Clock Sources (ISPCS) 2013 plugfest in Lemgo, Germany.

This test capability is enabled through the generous support of Oregano Systems, providing access to the Oregano Systems’ syn1588 PCIe NIC, as well as technical guidance in the expansion of UNH-IOL’s INTACT protocol conformance test tool to include hardware timestamping PTP support. In cooperation with Oregano Systems, the UNH-IOL can investigate conformance to emerging precision time and time sensitive networking (TSN) protocols.

Through collaboration with the AVnu Alliance, “IOL INTACT™ AVnu Alliance Member Edition for gPTP” is now available for in-house pre-certification use by its members. Companies interested in third party PTP validation, and/or in-house PTP validation are encouraged to contact the UNH-IOL.

In alignment with a NIST Cooperative Agreement, an IEEE 1588 Power Profile Testing Plan has been developed which includes input from the IEEE PSRC H24 committee for the Revision of IEEE Standard C37.238-2011. The test plan is intended to be the basis of an IEEE-SA Interoperability Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) to enable certification for SmartGrid devices using the IEEE 1588 Power Profile.

These advanced testing capabilities are made available through the support of Oregano Systems. The UNH-IOL’s collaboration with organizations such as Oregano Systems further demonstrates the lab’s critical role in bridging industry and academia. Companies interested in third party validation and reporting for the IEEE 1588 Power Profile, AVnu Alliance certification or general IEEE 1588 conformance and interoperability are encouraged to contact the UNH-IOL.
