CustomWeather IDs Best Leaf-Peeping Regions for Fall 2013

SAN FRANCISCO--()--CustomWeather, a specialized provider of high-resolution weather forecast and alert services, has released its Best Leaf-Peeping Regions for Fall 2013. Based on a number of key variables affecting local climate, CustomWeather determined which areas in the continental United States will offer the best leaf-peeping conditions this Fall.

CustomWeather analyzed critical historical factors of temperature, humidity and rainfall so far this year along with forecasted conditions for the next several months.

From this analysis, CustomWeather has been able to determine where the best leaf-peeping will occur this Fall.

Best Leaf-Peeping Areas, Fall 2013

  • Mid-Atlantic
  • Southeast
  • Northwest

Leaf-peepers should expect to enjoy a colorful display across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states thanks to normal and above-normal precipitation over the summer, combined with forecasted near-normal temperatures. In these states, peak foliage usually occurs in mid-October but mountainous and higher elevation regions begin their season in September. Great places to capture the Fall colors in these areas include the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia and North Carolina or the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania.

The Northwest, especially Washington, had near-normal precipitation over the summer. With near-normal temperatures in September, leaf-peeping should have a good array of colors during the peak foliage season that begins in mid-September and runs through mid-October. Across the Pacific Northwest, some of the best Fall colors can be seen in the Western Cascades.

Warm conditions may make for a less colorful Fall in New England

Much of the Northeast is expected to have above-normal temperatures in late September, which could impact the foliage display that normally peaks by the first week of October. However, the occurrence of a sudden cold snap may induce better colors going into October. The Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine usually provide some of the best leaf-peeping opportunities in New England.
