Health Dialog Convenes Panel of Experts to Discuss Shared Decision Making

Upcoming Webinar Will Showcase Real World Examples of Effective Programs

BOSTON--()--Despite the growing adoption of Shared Decision Making (SDM) nationally and the increasing number of studies that demonstrate how the practice can positively impact patients’ experience and reduce healthcare costs, there are still many organizations that aren’t yet convinced of its value.

To help encourage those organizations to take the plunge into SDM, Health Dialog will be hosting a webinar, “Real Results: Reducing Costs and Improving Outcomes through Shared Decision Making”, on September 17 at 2:00 pm. Dr. Peter Goldbach, chief medical officer of Health Dialog, will be joined by Marylou Buyse, chief medical officer of the Scott & White Health Plan, and Martin Ahrens, Senior Director of Health Management Services at National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), to present compelling experiences from different organizations that are successfully using SDM to deliver high-value healthcare to their populations.

During this presentation participants will hear how one of the nation’s largest multi-specialty group practice systems and a large rural utility organization that provides SDM as part of their benefits package, are using this approach to improve patient and provider satisfaction, reduce hospitalizations and invasive surgeries, and improve patient outcomes while reducing costs. SDM is a collaborative process that allows patients and their providers to make health care decisions together, taking into account the best scientific evidence available, as well as the patient’s personal values and preferences.

Health Dialog’s patient decision aids are developed in collaboration with the not-for-profit Informed Medical Decisions Foundation, and have collectively earned the company more than 100 industry awards and recognitions for clarity of content, ease of use, and design. Available on 38 different topics, the aids are accessible to patients through a state-of-the-art web-based interface and in DVD format. This is supplemented with Health Dialog’s specially trained health coaches who prepare individuals to have constructive discussions with their doctors.
