LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky, Inc., announced today that it has been selected to serve Kentucky Medicaid beneficiaries. The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) selected Anthem and two other health plans as a result of a competitive bidding process to serve the existing and newly eligible Medicaid expansion population across the commonwealth aside from Region 3. The Louisville region was included in a previous procurement process.
More than 300,000 currently uninsured individuals across Kentucky will soon be eligible for Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act. This population includes adults aged 19 to 64 with income under 138 percent of the Federal Poverty Level—not covered under current Medicaid eligibility criteria, and former foster care children up to age 26.
As a result of the contract award, Anthem will participate in Kentucky’s Medicaid managed care program and coordinate comprehensive health care services for individuals included in the Medicaid expansion population. The company also expects to begin serving a portion of the nearly 550,000 existing Medicaid enrollees in mid-2014.

Anthem is expected to begin serving Medicaid members on January 1, 2014, subject to finalization of its contract with CHFS.
