AMSTERDAM--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IBC 2013: Stand 2.B50 — DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, today announced that Elemental Technologies, a leading supplier of video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, and castLabs, a mobile video technologies and services company, will support live streaming of DTS-HD® content through the MPEG-DASH format. This will allow streaming of immersive DTS-HD for applications such as live sports and music events.
DTS-HD is a high performance discrete audio codec designed specifically to enable streaming services to deliver content to consumers in immersive 5.1 surround sound. A universal adaptive streaming format, MPEG-DASH enables high-quality streaming of media content to Internet-connected TVs, set-top boxes, PCs and mobile devices.
"castLabs is proud to work with Elemental Technologies and DTS on enabling the next level of bit rate-adapted, immersive video experiences, based on HEVC and DTS-HD Layered Audio, unleashing the full power of MPEG-DASH," said Michael Stattman, CEO of castLabs.
Elemental Technologies will integrate DTS-HD via MPEG-DASH within Elemental® Live, its video processing system that provides real-time video and audio encoding for linear TV broadcast, as well as live streaming to new media platforms. castLabs will support playback of DTS audio technology in all major streaming formats and current generation (AVC/H.264) and next generation video formats (HEVC/H.265) on its Android and iOS players.
“Integrating DTS- via MPEG-DASH with Elemental products helps raise the quality bar while simplifying customer operations,” said Aslam Khader, chief product officer for Elemental. “This solution lets media customers and their consumers experience an exceptional level of audio quality regardless of the chosen viewing device.”
“With these integrations by Elemental and castLabs, DTS-HD will be available via live streaming for the first time in MPEG-DASH format,” said Mark Johnson, vice president, of streaming and media solutions for DTS. “DTS is proud to collaborate with market-leading companies like Elemental and castLabs to deliver top-quality consumer audio experiences across devices using the latest streaming formats.”
DTS will demonstrate how these integrations create an end-to-end solution—from content encoding and stream packaging to streaming playback on a tablet—at its IBC stand.
