Stanford Hospital & Clinics Names New Chief Information Officer and Chief Medical Information Officer

STANFORD, Calif.--()--Continuing to position itself for future innovation, Stanford Hospital & Clinics (SHC) has named Pravene Nath, MD, as its chief information officer and Christopher (Topher) Sharp, MD, as chief medical information officer.

Nath joined SHC in September 2008 as chief medical information officer and most recently served as its interim chief information officer. He is also a clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his BSE in biomedical engineering from Duke University and his MD and MSE in biomedical engineering from The University of Michigan. Nath completed his residency in emergency medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center.

“Dr. Nath has been instrumental in establishing innovative new technology programs at SHC, and we are fortunate to have him leading our IT initiatives,” said Amir Dan Rubin, President and CEO, Stanford Hospital & Clinics. “His leadership has helped SHC become a paperless hospital for improved patient safety and quality, and to earn national recognition for our outstanding levels of IT adoption.”

Sharp will report to Nath and will oversee SHC’s clinical informatics strategy, optimization of information technology workflows and new EMR implementations.

“Dr. Sharp has served as a passionate physician advocate for the use of innovative clinical technology to support patient care,” said Nath. “His experience with design, optimization and integration of electronic health records, among other accomplishments, is a tremendous asset to our team.”

Sharp is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and completed his residency in internal medicine at Stanford. As a clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Sharp maintains an active practice at the Stanford Internal Medicine clinic and regularly participates in the teaching of residents and students.
