MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, will host its summer 2013 commencement on August 10, for more than 1,000 Capella students who are expected to participate in the event at the Minneapolis Convention Center. As of June 30, 2013, approximately 36,000 students were pursuing an online degree at Capella. The learning and career outcomes of Capella’s students and alumni can be found at www.capellaresults.org.
Capella will also recognize its first honorary degree recipient, Lt. Col. Mark Weber, a veteran officer of the U.S. Army, who recently passed away after fighting intestinal cancer, and who authored the book “Tell My Sons …,” which is based on more than 20 years of his journals and reflections.
Addressing graduates will be Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, America’s first African-American female combat pilot. Armour is a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps and served two tours overseas in Iraq. She has appeared on “The Oprah Show,” CNN, “Tavis Smiley,” and NPR delivering her inspirational message on creating breakthroughs in life.
“Capella’s commencement ceremony is an emotional milestone for our graduates and their families,” said Scott Kinney, president of Capella University. “This year, as we continue to celebrate our 20th anniversary, perseverance is at the forefront of our thinking. All of us at Capella would like to congratulate our new graduates on their inspiring perseverance in completing their degrees.”
