DTS Expands Footprint of its Play-Fi™ Wireless Audio Technology in Asia

DTS’ Play-Fi “Hi-Fi over Wi-Fi” Technology Launches in China with QQ Music Seamlessly Integrated

Mobile Asia Expo 2013

SHANGHAI--()--At the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio post processing technologies, today announced the expansion of its groundbreaking Play-Fi™ wireless platform into China. In conjunction with the launch into this market, QQ Music, China's leading authorized digital music service provider, is now seamlessly integrated into the Play-Fi app. Play-Fi enables users to stream lossless, high-definition audio from their smartphones, tablets and PCs directly to equipped speakers throughout the home using a standard Wi-Fi network.

QQ Music is directly integrated into the free Play-Fi app, which is now available for download at Google Play or the Amazon App store. That means that QQ Music subscribers can access their existing accounts, or create a new one, to stream their favorite music to one or more Play-Fi enabled-speakers anywhere in their home. The app has also been localized with Chinese language support and features all of the popular QQ Music features.

“The multi-room speaker category in China is still in its infancy, but has tremendous growth potential. By integrating QQ Music, the premiere music service in China, Play-Fi customers now have an unprecedented selection of high quality music to enjoy in their home,” said Brian Towne, executive vice president and chief operating officer, DTS. “In addition, it positions our Play-Fi technology as an ideal platform for manufacturers looking to offer a multi-room speaker solution to the more than 225 million Android users in China.”

The line of Play-Fi-equipped audio products currently shipping in China includes the Phorus PS1 Speaker and the Wren V5PF Speaker, as well as the Phorus PR1 Receiver, which allows users to stream music through their existing home audio system. With Play-Fi, users have full control of the home speaker network—allowing them to set up, link, and stream audio to one or multiple speakers over standard Wi-Fi, an industry first. Users in China can use the Play-Fi app to access locally stored music, DLNA servers, and Internet radio and podcasts from around the world. Play-Fi is available today for Android devices, and forthcoming availability for Windows PCs was announced earlier this year.

Several Play-Fi-equipped audio products can be found through various distributors in China, as well as other markets in Asia. Play-Fi is also available as a licensed platform from DTS, presenting a major opportunity for other mobile and home entertainment hardware manufacturers to offer their customers a whole home streaming audio experience.
