Shawn Banerji Leads Panel Discussion on Driving Innovation

Examines Key Findings From Latest Survey on Peer and Successor Skills Assessment

MIT Sloan CIO Symposium 2013

NEW YORK--()--Russell Reynolds Associates, a leading global executive search and assessment firm, announced that Shawn Banerji, a managing director serving the global technology sector, will lead a panel discussion at the 2013 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium (www.mitcio.com) in Cambridge, Mass. Notable findings from the firm’s latest survey, which explores how CIOs assess their peers and their potential successors on the question of leadership will also be discussed.

Banerji will host Georgia Papathomas, VP and CIO of J&J Pharmaceuticals, Keith Collins, SVP, CIO & CTO of SAS Institute, Michael Golz, SVP & CIO Americas of SAP, Sanjay Mirchandani, EVP of EMC, and Simon Bentley, VP, Global Application Development of Avaya in an in-depth conversation on balancing the demands of business improvement and cost efficiency in this fast changing IT landscape, as well as today’s challenges in IT leadership skills development brought to light in Russell Reynolds Associates’ research study, “Rethinking People Leadership in IT: Four Key Findings for Boosting IT Leader Selection, Performance and Succession.”

“Designed to help sitting CIOs optimize their current performance, improve succession planning and develop the next generation of IT talent, our latest study revealed that among various leadership competencies, there is a significant gap at many firms in “people skills” development,” said Banerji. “I’m delighted that this panel of IT leaders will join me in sharing their insight on driving innovation and managing expectations, while cultivating the requisite people skills to advocate effectively to a diversity of constituents.”

The quantitative study, launched by Russell Reynolds Associates in partnership with Arthur Langer, Ed D. of Columbia Business School, is based on feedback from 985 IT professional respondents in the fall of 2012 on three key questions:

  • Which leadership competencies matter most in terms of IT leadership success?
  • How effectively do IT leaders deliver against these competencies?
  • What actions distinguish firms that build the best IT leadership benches?

“Entitled “The Successful CIO – Driving Innovation and Managing Expectations,” the featured panel will run from 11:15am to 12:30pm.

The 2013 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium, currently in its tenth year, will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium, MIT (77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA). Nearly 700 CIOs and senior IT executives will be attending this premier international event that aims to help IT executives become better business leaders.
