LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Green Youth Movement (GYM), a non-profit organization located in Beverly Hills CA, will be honored by The Children’s Nature Institute (CNI) at its annual Gala Dinner & Awards on April 25th, 2013.
GYM was established by mother-daughter team Rochelle and Ally Maize seven years ago. Ally was inspired to start GYM after watching "The Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore in a school science class. Concerned by what she learned about global warming, Ally decided to do something about it. She wanted to reach out to other children to make them aware of current environmental issues, thus GYM was born. GYM’s mission is to educate kids worldwide on environmental awareness & living green, and to establish this information as part of the curriculum in elementary schools.
In 2011, GYM’s new president, Chloe Mills, spearheaded a partnership with The Education and Environment Initiative (EEI). The state of California approved this curriculum for the classroom and is currently poised to lead the nation in environmental literacy. GYM is now in a partnership with the State to promote this new program. Today, EEI continues to train GYM members to represent EEI and become ambassadors for California.
“The Children's Nature Institute shares our same vision and passion in educating our youth on living green. We are thrilled to be the proud recipient of the ‘Catalyzing Action’ award at this year’s event in recognition of our contribution to the environmental community," said GYM co-founder, Rochelle Maize.
The "World of Wonder" Gala Dinner & Awards takes place on April 25th, 2013 at The Museum of Flying. Fellow honorees include The Boeing Company, who will receive the ‘Revitalizing Action’ award, and Fox Entertainment Group who will receive the ‘Creating Action’ award for its FOXGIVES community outreach program. The event is a critical fundraiser that allows the CNI to offer its Nature Discovery Program free-of-charge to underserved children throughout L.A county.
