Monterey Bay Aquarium Joins San Francisco CityPASS Program

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Home to sea otters, sharks, penguins, sea dragons and thousands of other marine animals and plants, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is the newest addition to the San Francisco CityPASS® program. Beginning April 17, travelers will have a choice between visiting the Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39 on San Francisco’s lively Embarcadero waterfront or the Monterey Bay Aquarium, located two hours south of San Francisco via Highway 101.

“Our research reveals that a high number of San Francisco CityPASS buyers visit both San Francisco and Monterey during their trips to California,” said Mike Gallagher, CityPASS co-founder. “So, it made sense to add a truly outstanding Monterey attraction. Now travelers can enjoy an aquarium experience whether they plan to stay in the city for their full vacation or explore more of the state by zipping down 101 to Monterey or by taking the more scenic coastal route on Highway 1.”

San Francisco CityPASS ticket booklets, which shave 44 percent off combined attraction admissions, make planning a getaway to the “City by the Bay” a breeze. Each CityPASS covers prepaid admission to the California Academy of Sciences, a Blue & Gold Fleet Bay Cruise, a choice between the Aquarium of the Bay and Monterey Bay Aquarium, and a choice between the de Young Museum and Legion of Honor and the Exploratorium. And getting to the majority of these attractions — not to mention Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown and other popular sights — is easy with a Muni and Cable Car 7-Day Passport, also included with each San Francisco CityPASS ticket booklet. The passport lets visitors enjoy an unlimited number of rides on all Muni buses and streetcars, as well as the city’s famous cable cars.

A 2013 San Francisco CityPASS ticket booklet costs $84 for adults, $59 for kids, 5-11. Passes, which can be purchased online at CityPASS.com or at any of the CityPASS attractions, are valid for nine consecutive days, beginning with the first day of use.

Spring travelers will definitely want to check out the Exploratorium’s stunning new home at Pier 15 on San Francisco’s historic Embarcadero waterfront. The museum’s 330,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space features some 600 exhibits, 25 percent of which are brand-new installations designed to engage, delight and inform. Located at the end of the pier is the Bay Observatory building, a mostly glass structure through which spectacular views of the bay complement a new gallery, an outdoor terrace, and a bayside restaurant.

For more than 15 years, CityPASS ticket booklets and admission cards have been premier products for travelers who want to visit a destination’s top attractions while enjoying significant savings. CityPASS booklets/cards are available for New York City, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hollywood, Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern California and Toronto.
