LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The recent National Rx Drug Abuse Summit held in Orlando, Florida focused the spotlight on the Rx drug epidemic killing 10,000+ Americans every year. Narconon was there in force with a booth populated by the Eastern management office to elucidate and educate the attendees on the nature of help for such that Narconon provides.
In opening statements, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden said, “We can stop this epidemic.” Attending the conference from Narconon Eastern US, director Yvonne Rodgers pledged “to increase our efforts to support the Summit intention to make an impact.” Narconon is an international network of drug rehabilitation and prevention programs.
At the Summit held 2-4 April, luminaries involved in this fight presented successful approaches to preventing prescription drug abuse or to deal with its effects. Keynote presenters included Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration and Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske.
“For more than forty-five years, we have dedicated ourselves to saving lives nearly destroyed by drugs like heroin, cocaine, prescription opiates and alcohol,” said Clark Carr, president of Narconon International. “We are very fortunate to have a protocol that the majority of our clients have found effective for recovery. Currently, there are nearly fifty Narconon centers located on six continents and dozens more drug education and prevention groups.
Carr cited personal testimonials of the success of the Narconon program saving lives that had just crossed his desk, including a letter received from a nurse at Narconon Arrowhead, the network’s largest center, located in Oklahoma. The letter from Gillian C. read, in part:

Another letter from Bryant Farnam described his addiction to the pharmaceutical drug oxycodone starting at the age of 17, followed by years of heavy drug abuse, arrests, more than 12 attempts at rehab and a disintegrating life. He found himself at last shooting up pharmaceuticals. “I had lost my family, my mother had a security system installed and my father filed a restraining order. I was completely unable, a catastrophe,” Farnam’s letter says. “I asked my mother if she could find me a place to go to rehab and within two days, I was going to the Narconon program in San Diego. Through the love and very knowledgeable help I received from all the Narconon staff, I started to see some real results. I can now handle situations in my life a lot better, I take value in myself. I now live a drug-free, happy life, where I am a productive member of society and I have a trusting, loving relationship with my family.”
