AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bandspeed today announced a partnership with Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM) to enhance Broadcom’s enterprise network monitoring and management platform with Bandspeed’s AirMaestro RF spectrum analysis technology and software. The Bandspeed AirMaestro RF Spectrum Analysis solution for Broadcom includes multiple software applications that will be included in Broadcom’s FastPath® Unified Access Point (UAP) and Unified Wireless Switching (UWS) software products to identify, classify, locate and mitigate sources of RF interference adversely affecting the wireless network.
The BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) movement, also referred to as the consumerization of IT, has led to an even greater reliance on the corporate WLAN. Employees expect the WLAN to be fast and reliable, while the IT department needs the network to also be secure and manageable. Since 802.11 WLANs function in the unlicensed frequency bands, interference from other RF sources in the same frequency band is common and results in significantly degraded WLAN performance.
“IT personnel need advanced spectral analysis tools, such as AirMaestro, to quickly detect, identify, classify, locate and ultimately mitigate this RF interference in order to effectively manage the WLAN to deliver the expected performance,” said Bob Mayer, vice president of sales and marketing for Bandspeed. “Bandspeed is very pleased to be working with Broadcom to integrate our advanced RF signal analysis technology and software with their FastPath software offering to provide a complete, turn-key WLAN monitoring and management solution to our joint customers.”
The Bandspeed AirMaestro RF Spectrum Analysis solution includes:
- AirMaestro software that resides on the WLAN Access Point (AP) that used Broadcom’s 802.11n and 802.11ac chipsets, including BCM43460, to capture RF signals from the environment, analyze the RF environment for WLAN channel quality and utilization and classify RF interference from non-WLAN sources.
- User interface displays for the WLAN AP that provide the user visibility into the real-time channel quality and utilization measurements, as well as a log of the recent interference events that have been detected and reported by the AP.
- RF Monitoring Service and console applications software that will be available in Broadcom’s FastPath UWS offering and provides extensive centralized monitoring and management capabilities for a network of AirMaestro-enabled APs. This includes management of a centralized interference event database with event clustering and source localization, management of a centralized database of spectral recordings with options to automate spectral recordings, and advanced spectral displays for forensic analysis of RF signals.
General Availability
Broadcom’s FastPath Unified Access Point (UAP) and Unified Wireless Switching (UWS) software, integrated with Bandspeed’s AirMaestro RF spectrum analysis solutions, will be available early next quarter.
Enterprise OEMs using the new software, in conjunction with Broadcom’s latest Enterprise 5G WiFi silicon (BCM43460) with enhanced spectrum capability, will provide advanced RF signal analysis and monitoring for enterprise-class 802.11ac wireless networks.
“Bandspeed is a recognized industry leader in the field of RF signal analysis, interference classification and monitoring for wireless LANs. Our partnership with Bandspeed allows Broadcom to expand our FastPath UAP/UWS WLAN Management and Security software offering to include the critical RF interference monitoring required for the comprehensive WLAN Management of today’s enterprise wireless network,” said Michael Powell, Associate Director, Broadcom.
“Our partnership with Broadcom helps fulfill our vision of equipping more IT departments and solutions providers with the tools needed to effectively manage enterprise-class WLANs in response to disruptive interference,” said Bill Eversole, president and CEO, Bandspeed.
