TAMALE, Ghana--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In celebration of World Water Day this Friday, Boston-based Community Water Solutions is hosting a conference for women water entrepreneurs. The conference will bring together successful rural water vendors from across northern Ghana to learn about the water crisis and to share their business strategies.

The conference is being held on March 22nd in celebration of World Water Day. Designed by the United Nations, World Water Day aims to draw attention to the 783 million people that live without access to safe drinking water. “Water and Sanitation is one of the primary drivers of public health,” says Dr. Lee Jong-Wook, Director General of the World Health Organization. “Once we can secure access to clean water and to adequate sanitation… a huge battle against all kinds of diseases will be won.” On March 22nd, CWS will bring together women water entrepreneurs from across Ghana to share their success stories from using social enterprises to bring clean water to their rural communities, celebrate their efforts and build momentum.
One such success story is Salamatu. Salamatu lives in Chani, a small village in Northern Ghana. Salamatu’s village lacks infrastructure and as a result all her life Salamatu drank contaminated water from her local pond. In January 2010 Salamatu worked with CWS to launch a clean water business in her community. Now, she treats the contaminated water making it healthy and then sells the now clean water to her village. To this day she continues to run a water treatment business and provides clean water for her entire community. On Friday, March 22nd at the CWS conference she will share the secrets to her success with dozens of other village water entrepreneurs.
